The Gift Of My Hometown
The Gift Of My Hometown
Hometown in November
The moment I stepped into the village, I caught the scent of osmanthus flowers.
White camellias bloom softly, as if whispering to the people now sun-drying tea seeds:
Wave after wave,
next year will again be as abundant.
Speaking of drying tea seeds —
at this time, most households in the village are busy with them.
As the tea fruits slowly dry and crack open, people peel away the shells,
revealing the brown tea seeds inside.
In the evening,
as we enjoy the setting sun,
the continuous sound of neighbors turning and gathering the tea seeds
mingles with the fading warmth of the day and the sense of a bountiful completion.
Besides these two,
glittering golden kumquats and tangerines are also in season.
We taste the varieties from each household in the village,
sharing and exchanging.
The two small orange trees at our home bear sweet fruit,
and picking them with my mother in the garden has become a joy.
Sharing some with neighbors,
sending some to relatives —
it’s also a warm connection.
Morning and evening, I love taking walks.
The mornings are quieter;
in the evenings, people are busy at home.
With my dog by my side,
I savor these moments of freedom.
Accompanied by the recurring fragrance of flowers,
I feel my heart grow much more serene.
Grateful for the nourishment of my hometown.
